2.1 million Americans had their phones stolen and even with safeguards like Find My iPhone, people are still having

a hard time getting their phones back.

In fact, thieves can just turn the stolen phones off and make them untraceable. Based on the insight that thieves usually turn off the stolen phone immediately, we made a new feature for iOS that

utilizes facial recognition technology to identify phone owners in order to turn off a phone. When an unfamiliar face is detected, the forward facing and rear camera will immediately take a photo and upload everything it captures to iCloud. Owners of the lost phone will then be able to use the evidence to report to the authorities.
